FNAWN would like to congratulate member Alexis West on the successful June run of her play Echoes …. of Knowing Home at Tandanya National Aboriginal Cultural Institute.
Presented by No Strings Attached Theatre of Disability, in partnership with Kura Yerlo’s Karrarendi visual arts program and Tandanya National Aboriginal Cultural Institute, Echoes … of Knowing Home is a multi-media performance journey. The play explores,
Removed, displaced and disoriented, 13 disabled Aboriginal performers reconnect to country and kin via a multi-media performance journey mapped with unexpected humour, tenacity and grace. Performers were removed from their families and homes for a variety of reasons — Aboriginality, disability, escalating high support needs, absence of hospitals and facilities in their home country, adoption, fostering. Most grew up (and now live) in Adelaide institutions or shared care facilities. None has the personal resources to return home. Yet each holds tightly to a longing for original home and family. Each yearns for Country, Kin, Connection.
The play ran in June 2014.
